Darryl is the principal of Chelmsford Legal. Whilst Darryl considers himself primarily a trial lawyer, having experience in both criminal and civil trials, Darryl provides advice on a diverse range of criminal and civil matters. His practice includes court and trial work, all types of criminal matters, appeals, criminal confiscations, traffic matters, coronial inquests, extradition matters and mediation.

Darryl believes his success can be attributed to hard work, dedication and a willingness to go the extra mile for his clients. His practice has seen him represent clients all over the State, including Kalgoorlie, Northam, Broome, Karratha, Bunbury and Manjimup.

In addition to criminal law, Darryl provides clients with extensive civil litigation services including trial advocacy in relation to complex commercial disputes and mediation. Darryl has acted as Counsel in many civil trials, involving both individuals and companies.

Darryl graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Laws, with Honours, in 2000. Prior to commencing Chelmsford Legal, Darryl was an Associate to a Supreme Court Judge, a State Prosecutor and a principal of a large Perth law firm.

Katherine Dowling

Katherine graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Law from the University of Western Australia. She then commenced her legal career at a leading international law firm, working in the area of commercial litigation. She has since worked fro two Perth based firms, where she broadened her practice into general civil litigation and criminal law.

Katherine provides advice and representation in all areas of criminal law, criminal injuries compensation and general civil litigation, with a particular focus on criminal confiscation.

She has experience as counsel in sentencing hearings, jury trials interlocutory applications and mediations and regularly appears in the Children’s Court, Magistrates Court, District Court and Supreme Court.

Katherine has outstanding interpersonal skills and prides herself on her ability to establish excellent working relationshipps with her clients to ensure that matters are resolved in a professional, practical and cost efficient manner.

In addition to her legal work, Katherine sits as an adjudicator for disciplinary hearings on the Football West Tribunal, WACA Tribunal and Rugby WA Judiciary.

Fiona Lester

Fiona graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2012 with a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction. She worked for two years an an associate to a Supreme Court Judge, where she was involved in the hearings of many complex criminal matters, including appeals from Magistrates Court decisions, criminal confiscations hearings, sentencing and trials.

Prior to commencing at Chelmsford Legal, Fiona worked in a commercial law firm in the areas of estates and civil litigation.

Fiona provides advice and representation for a range of criminal matters including restraining orders, traffic matters, and offences against the person and civil matters such as debt recovery and breach of contract. Fiona also provides advice and representation in relation to matters hears in the State Administrative tribunal.

Aleksandra Miller

Aleksandra is a paralegal at Chelmsford Legal. She is also studying a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science (majoring in psychology) at the University of Western Australia.

Aleksandra provides assistance with legal research, file management and trial preparation, as well as other tasks. She is committed to her role at Chelmsford Legal and believes that anyone facing criminal charges deserves quality representation.

Prior to commencing at Chelmsford Legal, Aleksandra gained experience as a paralegal at the Mental Health Law Centre. She has also begun developing her advocacy skills through trial advocacy and mooting competitions, and was a semi-finalist in the King & Wood Mallesons Private Law mooting competition in 2014.



Teele Deschamp

Office Manager

Teele (pronounced “Taylor”) is the Office Manager at Chelmsford Legal.  She has previously studied law in Estonia and is in the process of completing her Certificate in Legal Services IV.

Apart from speaking English, Teele is also conversant in Estonian, Russian and Finnish. She has experience working as an Estonian interpreter, representing clients in District Court and Magistrates Court.

As an Office Manager, Teele provides paralegal support and has experience with:

  • Archiving;
  • Archiving;
  • Client Service;
  • Discovery;
  • Document Management; and
  • Drafting Court Documents and Forms;
  • Filing Documents in Court; and
  • Transcribing Video and Audio recordings.

Teele enjoys working with people – providing excellent service to our clients. She is an efficient and enthusiastic member of the Chelmsford Legal team.
